In which cities are you particularly likely to be caught speeding?
The evaluation of a law firm shows big differences.
There is probably no driver who is happy when they are caught speeding.
However, there are definitely important places for speed checks: in front of schools, kindergartens or old people's homes, for example.
In some cases there may be controversial placements - but this is no justification for blowing up a speed trap or knocking over or breaking a device.
But how different is the flashlight actually used in German cities?
In fact, there are big differences in the number of speed cameras, as an evaluation now shows.

According to an evaluation, Freiburg has the most speed cameras in Germany
The
Goldenstein law firm
has evaluated how many fixed, mobile and semi-stationary speed cameras there are on average in Germany's 40 largest cities.
In order to ensure better comparability, these values were also compared to the existing road area.
The result: In the 40 cities analyzed, there are an average of 11.47 speed cameras per 1,000 hectares of road area.
Freiburg im Breisgau took the top spot with an average of 35.37 speed cameras per 1,000 hectares of road area.
Here are the ten cities with the most speed cameras:
Rank/City |

2. Wiesbaden |

Stationary speed traps: People who know the area are rarely caught by speed cameras here
According to the makers of the study, the three cities of Freiburg, Wiesbaden and Wuppertal have the highest density of speed cameras in Germany, primarily because there are many stationary speed cameras there.
According to the analysis, there is not a single stationary speed camera in Magdeburg.
However, the fixed speed cameras went off relatively rarely because local drivers are of course familiar with them.
Mobile or semi-stationary speed cameras are therefore significantly more dangerous for drivers.
Bonn has the most mobile and semi-stationary speed cameras
That's why the law firm has created another ranking that sorts the cities according to the number of mobile and semi-stationary speed cameras per 1,000 hectares of road surface.
And things look completely different there.
The top three cities here are Bonn (3.87), Oberhausen (2.7) and Mannheim (2.6).
Here it is relatively likely – at least for those who know the area – to be caught by speed cameras.
At least statistically, drivers are relatively “safe” from speed traps in Bremen (0.31), Dresden (0.37) and Kassel (0.38).

By the way, the easiest way to avoid getting caught speeding is to simply stick to the speed limit.
Although there are various technical tricks to protect yourself from speed traps, many of them are illegal.
In Germany, for example, the use of speed camera warning apps is prohibited; according to a court ruling, this also applies to the passenger.
For the analysis, the law firm evaluated data from the apps blitzer.de and Waze.
In some cases, the results were also queried and compared with the responsible press or police offices in the cities.
