Not all speed traps are set up legally.
A misplacement could help you.
Does an official error protect you from a fine?
Anyone who doesn't stick to the speed limit will be ticketed.
Depending on how fast you were traveling, a very expensive photo might arrive in the mail.
There may also be a risk of a driving ban.
In some cases, drivers can save themselves with a good excuse.
However, a mistake by the police may also protect you from the high fine.
Because it is not necessarily allowed everywhere where flashlight is used.

Setting up speed cameras: Federal states set rules
There are strict rules that the police must adhere to when setting up speed traps.
Each federal state determines this individually.
It regulates, for example, “who is allowed to monitor and where the measuring devices should be set up,” explains the
ADAC
.
If a violation occurs, drivers can challenge the fine.
In most federal states, speed cameras must be placed at a certain distance from traffic signs.

A minimum distance is often stipulated between the town sign or speed sign and the measuring system.
In most cases this is between 75 and 200 meters, as

reports.
Which distance applies depends on the respective federal state:

Positioning of speed cameras: No regulation for the distance to the next traffic sign
As is often the case, there are exceptions to this rule.
For example, in dangerous areas with an increased risk of accidents or after a speed funnel that gradually reduces the speed.
Measurements in front of schools and retirement homes are also exempt from these regulations.

However, it is not regulated how far the speed camera can be in front of the next traffic sign.
So if the maximum speed is increased from 70 to 100, you have to wait until the sign.
If you accelerate beforehand and get caught, it can be expensive.
This also applies if you use aids to protect yourself from unwanted speed traps.
