Highlights: The Weenuche Native American tribe is building a $1 billion solar farm on the Ute Mountain Ute Reservation in Colorado. With its 2.2 million panels distributed over approximately 2,000 hectares of desert territory, it will become one of the largest solar parks in the United States. Located about 9 miles south of the Towaoc tribal capital, the Sun Bear Solar farm will be able to generate 971 megawatts of energy. It will be connected for distribution - when operational in 2026 - to the Western Area Power Administration's power line.

This is the Sun Bear Solar Project, which with its 2.2 million panels distributed over approximately 2,000 hectares of desert territory will become one of the largest solar parks in the United States.


    Located about 9 miles south of the Towaoc tribal capital, the Sun Bear Solar farm will be able to generate 971 megawatts (MW) of energy.

It will be connected for distribution - when operational in 2026 - to the Western Area Power Administration's power line.

Over 500 new jobs are expected to be created.
