From 21 March 2020 in Recanati, at Casa Leopardi, part of the main floor and the apartments where Giacomo Leopardi lived together with his brothers will be opened to the public for the first time, after a careful restoration. (HANDLE)

From 21 March it will be possible to 'immerse' in Le Ricordanze: Casa Leopardi has decided to open to the public part of the main floor and private apartments inhabited by the poet as a young man, inaccessible for over 200 years. You will be able to visit the bedroom and the window from which Giacomo Leopardi observed the moon and the "Vaghe stelle dell'Orsa", the sitting room where he entertained with the brothers Carlo and Paolina, the rear garden from which he saw the 'Blue Mountains'. , that is the Sibillini, but also the reception halls of Palazzo Leopardi, the gallery with its art collections, a part of the main floor.

They are the places of Leopardi's daily life, of the most intimate memories and also of his first loves: Teresa Fattorini, daughter of the coachman and inspiration of Silvia, and Gertrude Cassi Lazzari, a distant cousin of Pesaro, to whom Il primo amore is dedicated. The spaces recovered with careful restoration, carried out under the supervision of the Superintendency, compose a new visit itinerary, entitled 'Ove abitai fanciullo', a new journey to discover the inner world of the poet, fueled by memories, dreams and related impressions to the 'native wild village' with which Giacomo had a conflicting relationship.

The path leads to what have always been called "Brecce" at home. Count Monaldo Leopardi had these rooms built between the two gardens, that of the west and that of the east, to leave independence and intimacy to his adolescent children. The row of the three rooms has been completely restored, bringing to light the original pictorial decorations. Wanting the restoration and opening of the private rooms was Count Vanni Leopardi , who died last autumn, an indefatigable 'ambassador' of Leopardi's figure and work. "For our family it is an important moment - says the daughter Olimpia Leopardi, who collected the father's baton - and I hope it will be for all those who have Giacomo in their hearts. A dream come true for the many who, in the years, they got excited by visiting the Library and that, from today, they will finally be able to experience firsthand the suggestions that touched the soul of the young Leopardi ".

The new route crowns a twenty-year project to expand access to Leopardi's places which has gradually transformed Casa Leopardi into a real museum complex. In addition to the famous Library, which has always been open to the public, there is the renewed Leopardi Museum, which traces the life of Giacomo through his objects, 'Io nel pensier mi fingo', a virtual journey in his poetic imagination and 'With the eyes of Silvia ', the house inhabited by Teresa Fattorini. But all Recanati is now a Leopardian full immersion : between historic buildings, churches and places related to Giacomo's poetics, there is also a few tens of meters from Palazzo Leopardi, the National Center of Leopardi Studies, from which a dedicated multimedia path starts to L'Infinito, the most famous poetic text of the Italian language.
