Düsseldorf - The Dutch online electronics retailer Coolblue wants to become strong in Germany.
"We are taking on the German market city by city," said Coolblue boss Pieter Zwart of the newspaper Welt am Sonntag.
At the moment, the focus is on North Rhine-Westphalia, but other regions could be added later.
A first branch in Düsseldorf is to be opened on 2600 square meters and thus heats up the competition.
The branch should open in the Kö-Bogen.
"The branch in the Kö-Bogen is our calling card for Germany," said Pieter Zwart to Welt am Sonntag.
Coolblue makes tempting promises when ordering online
The Dutch company with 6,000 employees has recently grown strongly in the Benelux region and achieved sales of two billion euros last year.
For comparison: the sales of Media Markt * and Saturn together are around ten times higher.
But the company is not intimidated by this.
Instead, it makes further promises.
In the Rhineland metropolitan region and parts of the Sauerland and Münsterland, all products in the range should be delivered the next day if ordered before 00:00.
In other parts of Germany, this should apply to orders placed before 5 p.m. - but not for large products such as large household appliances and televisions.
Competition for Media Markt and Saturn does not want to start a discount battle
However, price leadership is not the top priority for Coolblue.
“We certainly take part in sales promotions like Black Friday.
But calling out a discount war every week is not typical for Coolblue, ”says Zwart.
