When a freight train slowly drove through the Badischer Bahnhof in Basel last Wednesday, a 45-year-old took the opportunity and jumped.
It then drove on a tank wagon to the Weil am Rhein transshipment station in Baden-Württemberg, where the train made a stopover.
A federal police patrol was already waiting for the man there.
A train driver discovered the stowaway and reported it.
The officials carried out a breath alcohol test on the man, which gave a value of 4.19 per mille.
He did not want to tell the police why the completely drunk man had jumped on the train.
He was taken to a hospital due to being heavily intoxicated.
Many fatal accidents
According to the federal police, he was then allowed to stay in the Lörrach district for his own protection until he was able to continue his journey safely.
Administrative offense proceedings were initiated against the 45-year-old for unauthorized entry into railway facilities.
In connection with the incident, the federal police warned against climbing or jumping on moving or stationary trains.
"Almost all of these accidents end in serious injury or death."
