The new heating law, initiated by Robert Habeck (The Greens) for 2024, also brings with it stricter regulations for wood-burning stoves. The law applies to all stoves installed between 1 January 1995 and 31 December 2010.
If the limits are not met, retrofitting is required by 31 December 2024. Consumers have to pay up to 1,000 euros for retrofit kits, but new ovens are available from as little as 500 euros. The fines for breaking the rules could be up to 50,000 euro.
