Inflation affects all areas of people's lives.

It is all the more important to estimate how much money Freisingers have donated to “people in need”.

Freising

– you help.

Unbureaucratic, calm, often quiet and in the background.

On Wednesday they were invited into the spotlight for an evening – at the fundraising gala for the FT “People in Need” campaign in the Sparkasse Hall.

The evening on which the money provided by Tagblatt readers is traditionally distributed to the associations and institutions that reliably provide help to people in need (see box).

Behind the fundraising gala there is a four-year break due to corona.

How much can change during this time became clear on Wednesday.

For the first time, it was FT editorial director Manuel Eser who led the evening and announced the donation amount at the end.

Also new at the lectern: Sparkasse boss and host this evening, the chairman of the board, Michael Langauer, and the head of the district, Helmut Petz.

District Administrator Helmut Petz emphasized that more and more people are dependent on financial support in everyday life.

And he went into the reasons that cause people to suffer through no fault of their own: In addition to the many individual crises in life such as illness, the loss of a loved one, addiction or sudden unemployment, there have been Corona, war in the immediate vicinity in recent years The resulting energy crisis and inflation have added new and sometimes completely unknown challenges.

The result: More and more people are dependent on financial support in everyday life.

And that's exactly who the generous donations from FT readers benefit from.

“Thank you for continuing the tradition,” said Freising’s mayor Tobias Eschenbacher, not only addressing the new editorial director.

He also alluded to the new structures for people in need: For logistical reasons, the aid campaign could no longer be continued as usual.

The saving idea came from MP Erich Irlstorfer, who, together with the then editorial director Helmut Hobmaier, quickly founded an association four years ago to ensure the continued existence of the campaign, which is so important for the region.

And so the new Tagblatt boss Manuel Eser was able, as he said, to take on “the most beautiful legacy” and continue the campaign.

Important grant: Dean Christian Weigl (l.) handed over a check to Markus Mehner (Caritas Freising).

The heart of this is the reporting on the work of the many social workers who sat down at the festively set tables in the savings bank hall on Wednesday.

“The life stories that we present and that are part of your everyday experience take place in our immediate neighborhood and yet are often not seen,” said Manuel Eser.

Thanks to the support of the associations and institutions present, “we can still bring them to light”.

It is all of these emotionally moving life stories that encourage FT readers to make generous donations.

However, Eser did not fail to emphasize that the fundraising campaign's decades-long successful model was only possible with strong partners at the FT's side: for example the Sparkasse Freising Moosburg, which is making the hall available for this evening and - in addition to a generous donation - financed the catering for the evening.

A sad moment of the evening was when Manuel Eser asked those present to rise from their seats for a minute of silence - for the late folk musician Theo Meindl.

The Meindl family would actually have provided musical accompaniment to the event.

The Moosach Blosn of the Freising city band spontaneously stepped in and provided the evening with the right musical setting.

Well-dressed for any eventuality: FT editorial director Manuel Eser, Sparkasse board member Manuela Radplayer, dean Christian Weigl, mayor Tobias Eschenbacher and the chairman of the Sparkasse Freising Moosburg board, Michael Langauer, took care of the guests' thirst in specially designed aprons.

Manuel Eser considered the fact that the donation total this year was 140,000 euros a success - even if it was not a record result.

But in times of extreme price increases that would affect people in every situation, the amount should be estimated even higher.

Especially since there were around 2,000 individual donors who were primarily willing to give to the good cause from private individuals.

The “Moosach Blosn”, a brass ensemble from the Freising city band, played heartily and received lots of applause.

And then the representatives of around 30 clubs and institutions were asked to come forward individually to receive the checks from the hands of the clergy, Deacon Walter Schwind and Dean Christian Weigl.

“Without all of you, the hall would be empty today and we would be deprived of many helping hands in many wonderful projects,” said Sparkasse boss Michael Langauer at the end.

Before the buffet opened and the Sparkasse crew as well as FT boss Eser and Freising's mayor Eschenbacher put on aprons to serve the guests the drinks, there were flowers for three indispensable supporters of the campaign in the background: the former FT editorial secretary Maria Hohlneicher - Kämmerling, Heidi Kammler and Claudia Irlstorfer – all three on the board of the new club.

The first company to donate to this year's “People in Need” campaign was the Weihenstephan State Brewery, which also sponsored the drinks for the fundraising gala.

Ultimately, every donation cent went to the social organizations.

Also for Dr.

Odo Weyerer (2nd from right) and his Medmobil received money from the pot of “People in Need”.
