A million profiles to check.
This is the daunting task faced by the Beauvau teams ahead of the 2024 Olympic Games. In an interview with the
Journal du Dimanche
(JDD), the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin recalled the number of screenings to be carried out among the volunteers, accompanying persons, staff who will have a role in the organization of the sporting event, a figure already mentioned during his hearing in the Senate at the start of the week.
Asked about the possible infiltration of security services by terrorists, the Beauvau host indicated that the screening had already started and that it was
“effective”
.
Of the 89,000 profiles already verified, 250 people were excluded,
“including six on S files”
, indicated Gérald Darmanin.
From law enforcement to administrative staff, everyone is scrutinized.
“We started by screening all of our staff, several times, and we will continue to do it until the end
,” assured the minister.
Some 200 agents from the national administrative security investigation service (SNEAS) were assigned to this verification work.
Will they manage to verify the approximately 900,000 remaining profiles by summer?
The minister has no doubt, “
with an increase in staff and the reinforcement of artificial intelligence”.
“If the screenings are not done, there will be no access badge,”
wanted to reassure the host from Beauvau, who for his part says he spends
“half a day a day”
preparing for the Olympics.
