Loud noise, a dark small car and an arrest: the police were on duty at Buckingham Palace.

London - A car crashed into a gate at Buckingham Palace in London on Saturday night.

The Metropolitan Police announced this at the request of the German Press Agency.

A man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and taken to hospital, it said.

There were no reports of injuries.

The Mirror newspaper had a shaky video on its website that appears to show the moment of the arrest.

It shows a person kneeling in front of Buckingham Palace with his hands behind his neck and being surrounded by others.

A dark small car sits between the posts of one of the gates to the palace with its hazard lights on.

The brief report on the Mirror website also said that an eyewitness became aware of what was happening because of a loud noise.

Nothing was initially known about the background to the incident, which is said to have occurred around 2:30 a.m. (local time).

According to the police, this is now the subject of the investigation.
