Mallorca, Türkiye – Germany?
For many vacationers, domestic travel, often called a “staycation,” also has its appeal.
But: where should we go?
Munich – The state of Bavaria is ideal for a vacation in Germany for many reasons.
Be it the beautiful mountain landscape, the many lakes and castles or the picturesque Bavarian Forest.
But what about the cities?
The website
sumup.de
has a ranking for the best “staycation” cities in Germany.
First of all: The Free State is doing well and badly at the same time.
“Staycation” in Germany – how worthwhile are the cities in Bavaria?
“Staycation” stands for the vacation that you essentially spend at home - it is made up of the English words “stay” and “vacation”.
Staycation can refer to a vacation within one's own four walls, but also one when one travels within one's home country.
This is where the ranking from
sumup.de
comes into play.
The business guide examined 20 German cities and compared them based on 19 different categories, such as “the number of sights, green spaces, safety index, etc.”
Many Germans prefer a vacation in their home country.
But where is the so-called “staycation” particularly worthwhile?
A ranking from sumup.de provides answers.

Bayern managed to do well and poorly in the ranking at the same time.
Because: While Regensburg takes first place, Nuremberg still makes it to tenth place - but Munich only ends up in 18th place. In addition, these three cities are the only ones that made it into the ranking - from Würzburg, Augsburg, There is no trace of Rothenburg ob der Tauber or Passau.
It is not clear from the press release from sumup.de
whether these cities were even among the 20 cities examined
.

Regensburg and Nuremberg in the top 10 – and well ahead of Munich
The world heritage city of Regensburg can be happy about its top spot in the staycation ranking.
Sumup.de
justifies this with the cathedral and the “medieval architecture in the old town.
There are over 18 sights per 100,000 inhabitants here.
The business guide also finds that the prices speak for Regensburg, as “a cup of coffee costs an average of €3.13.
The three-course menu in the chic restaurant is also similarly priced, namely around €50 for two people - a real Mecca for connoisseurs,” it says.

Nuremberg can at least look forward to a respectable tenth place in the ranking.
By the way, far ahead of the state capital Munich.
Why did it end up so far back, in 18th place?
“Mainly due to comparatively high prices and slightly less green space (25 percent),” says the press release.
