The police emphasize that the Internet is not a legal vacuum.

The Weilheim police have investigated two people because of hate messages and anti-Semitic statements.

With success: the men have to pay hefty fines.

District - Through the “Respect” reporting center, the police became aware that a 53-year-old from the Weilheim-Schongau district published hate messages - especially against Muslims - on social media in July 2023.

The criminal police investigated and found that the man had also insulted a high-ranking politician via a social channel in September 2023.

In another case, officials investigated a 58-year-old man from the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district who made anti-Semitic comments in public in October 2023.

Upper Bavaria South Police Headquarters: Everything is being done to combat crimes of this kind

The Upper Bavaria South Police Headquarters reports that the responsible specialist department of the Weilheim Criminal Investigation Department investigated both cases.

There was suspicion of insult and sedition.

The district courts of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Weilheim have issued penalty orders in both cases.

Both the 53-year-old (4,400 euros) and the 58-year-old (3,600 euros) were hit with heavy fines.

The judgments are already legally binding.

The police point out that the two penalty orders make one thing clear: hate crime in general and anti-Semitism will not be tolerated.

The Internet offers “no anonymity and no legal vacuum that enables or condones the commission of crimes.”

The Police Headquarters in Upper Bavaria South emphasizes that the police and judiciary will do everything they can to effectively combat crimes of this kind.
