“Trooping the Color” is one of the highlights in the royal calendar.

But can King Charles, who is suffering from cancer, even attend his own birthday parade?

London – Traditionally, the large military parade “Trooping the Color” takes place on the second Saturday in June.

Queen Elizabeth II (96, † 2022) celebrated her birthday in this context for 70 years, even though she was born on April 21st.

The reason is very obvious - in June you can expect better weather in London than in spring.

King Charles III

(75)'s birthday is November 14th, so he celebrated at his "Trooping the Color" premiere last year.

“At the top of the list”: King Charles really wants to be part of “Trooping the Color”.

In 2024, however, King Charles' health could throw a spanner in the works.

At the beginning of the year, Charles was diagnosed with an as yet unspecified type of cancer, which is why the British monarch is currently undergoing outpatient treatment.

As

Daily Mail

reports, King Charles has been advised by doctors not to attend events with large crowds.

During “Trooping the Color,” however, thousands of fans gather at the Horse Guards Parade parade ground and later in front of the balcony of Buckingham Palace, from which the British royal family marvels at the flyover of the Royal Air Force planes.

A plan is now being worked feverishly in the background to enable King Charles to take part in his birthday parade.

“There are a number of important events in the diary that His Majesty would like to attend and this one is at the top of the list,” an insider told

“Trooping the Color” then and now

The tradition of “Trooping the Color” goes back a long way.

The original purpose of the ceremony was to imprint the troop flag so that it could serve as a reference point for soldiers on the battlefield.

First carried out under Charles II (54, † 1685), “Trooping the Color” has, with a few exceptions, had a permanent place in the royal calendar every year since 1805.

Due to the global corona pandemic, slimmed down versions took place in 2020 and 2021.

In 2022, the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations have been brought forward to June 2nd.

King Charles' first official birthday parade took place on June 17, 2023.

Carriage instead of horseback: King Charles has to change saddles in “Trooping the Color”.

Traditionally, the monarch rides from Buckingham Palace along London's Mall to the parade ground to inspect the troops.

Last year, King Charles and Prince William (41) took part in the parade on horseback.

And even though Charles would obviously love to saddle his horse Noble again, he will probably have to do without it due to his cancer.

Instead of riding on horseback, Charles should sit in a carriage to avoid too much exertion.

Despite having cancer, King Charles doesn't want to miss his “Trooping the Color” birthday parade.

However, you probably won't see the monarch on horseback like in 2023 (right) this year.

The date for “Trooping the Color” this year is June 15th, so there is still a little time for planning.

It is also still unclear whether Kate Middleton (42) will be there after her abdominal surgery, even if, according to Kensington Palace, she should actually return to her official duties after Easter.

The British Army had recently announced Princess Kate's appearance at the dress rehearsal on June 8th, but the withdrawal followed immediately.
