The community of Taufkirchen could possibly get three new schools in one go.

Because the Sabel schools are drawn to the district community.

Taufkirchen – The Sabel Schools Foundation, a private educational institution, wants to establish itself in Taufkirchen.

A secondary school, high school and FOS are planned at the northern end of the town, on an area between Oberweg, Münchner Straße and Waldstraße.

Mayor is happy

Mayor Ullrich Sander (independent) did not hold back in the local council about his joy at the possibility of bringing a new school to Taufkirchen.

“As the fifth largest municipality in the district, we would be fine if we had a high school and an FOS,” he said.

And with the increasing number of students, a second secondary school is ideal.

However, not all council members wanted to share his enthusiasm.

The area on Oberweg has had some planning behind it.

In 2018 it was planned as a new location for the retirement home on Hachinger Bach that was in need of renovation.

After a year, the plans were off the table.

In 2019, the community decided to build a health center on the site.

This project also failed.

“The investor has disappeared,” says Sander.

Now a new project partner has been found.

According to the head of the town hall, there are no costs for the community

“With a new school location there is a more important thing at the start.

“I can only advertise,” said Sander.

A better opportunity would not arise again.

Normally, if a school is built, the municipality has to pay for the property.

But not at a private school.

“We will not incur any costs,” emphasized the town hall boss.

It's not just the costs that are an argument.

The number of students is increasing in Taufkirchen.

115 students from Taufkirchen are currently attending the Oberhaching high school.

The number is still stable, but it will shrink because Oberhaching's own needs are increasing.

“When Sauerlach will get a high school is anyone’s guess,” recalled Sander.

Unterhaching is expanding its high school, but will also reach capacity limits.

Not to forget: “We have a lot of residential construction projects,” says Sander.

Before things get tough, the community should think about it.

From the mayor's point of view, this request comes at just the right time.

School campus on 19,000 square meters

In mid-February, the Sabel Schools Foundation applied to build a new school location on the Oberweg site.

Around 19,000 square meters are required.

The Sabel Schools are a private educational institution with various school types.

They have a location in Munich, but are also represented in Nuremberg, Augsburg, Regensburg and Würzburg.

However, enthusiasm about the application in the local council was muted.

Almost all factions agree on the location: another would have been better.

Initially, the cone fields or the strawberry fields were discussed because they are closer to the train station, explained Sander.

Both options would have failed.

A third good solution has emerged with the Oberweg.

Green councilor warns of increased traffic volumes

It wasn't just Jutta Henkel (Greens) who was skeptical.

She warned of an increased volume of traffic at this sensitive point.

“Just last week there was another moped accident,” she says.

“Münchner Straße is not a safe place for children.” Beatrice Brückmann (ILT) would have liked the station district so that no free space would be sealed off.

Peter Hofbauer (Free Voters) is trying to come to terms.

“The strawberry fields would have been better.

Still, I’m in favor of this school.”

In addition to the location, the fact that the applicant is a private school is also controversial.

“Normal people can’t afford this,” said Thomas Hummel (Greens).

And if the Sabel School takes its Munich students with it, will there still be room for Taufkirchner?

Whether private or public – “every school place created is a relief for other schools,” said Paul Haberl (CSU).

If you compare how much the neighboring municipality spends on high schools, the Sabel schools are a great thing.

It was initially agreed that the representatives of the Sabel schools would present their concept at the council meeting.

But the administration postponed the lecture to April.

Much to the regret of the local council, who would have liked an exchange with the school.

The majority therefore did not want to vote for a development plan.

The decision now has to wait another month.
